    Description

Nazareth and Alcobaça. Giant waves and historical monasteries

Right on the west of Portugal and a hundred kilometers from Lisbon, the Portuguese village of Nazaré looks like a most typical tourist posters in the country.

This is a village with a long tradition cantered on boats and fishing nets. Fishermen are the largest workforce in this locality and the fishwives still wear the traditional seven skirts today.

It offers a mix of golden beaches that invite you on long walks and the practice of sea sports. Nowadays, the village is known all over the world for surfing, thanks to the Nazaré Cannon, an underwater phenomenon that causes the giant waves.

And what about Alcobaça? Situated between the mountains and the ocean, it is one of the most widely recognized and beautiful corners of Portugal.

On this tour, you will discover the historical past of the Order of Cister and savour one of the best convent sweets in the country in a city heavily influenced by the monasteries and convents of the Order of Cisterers. It has a regional gastronomy that will not fail to impress.

A journey of giant waves and stories from another times

Come and stroll quietly through the narrow, candlesticks streets of Nazaré, right next to relaxing beaches. For a breath-taking panorama of the sand, you can climb the “Sítio”, an impressive headland where the rock plunges into the sea at your feet.

In this place of devotion to Our Lady of Nazaré, a candidate for UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage of humanity, the landscape is stunning.

Enjoy the show at Praia do Norte, where surfers dominate the waves that exceed twenty meters high. Take a relaxing break at a local restaurant and enjoy grilled fish, fresh seafood and the famous fish stews. Wines from the region will round out your meal.

This private tour then goes to Alcobaça. Here, you will see the imposing Monastery of Alcobaça, one of the main in the country and one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. If you like history, here you will discover some of the best kept secrets in the history of the foundation of Portugal.

You will hear one of the most beautiful and tragic love stories ever, the story of Pedro and Inês, whose tombs are in the Monastery. Did you know that after the death of his wife, D. Constance, Pedro and Inês lived in the Palaces of Santa Clara in Coimbra with their four children for years? But the court constantly pressed D. Afonso IV, who eventually had Inês de Castro assassinated in January 1355.

Mad with pain, Pedro led a revolt against the king and never forgave his father's murder of his beloved. When he assumed the crown in 1357, D. Pedro had the assassins arrested and killed, ripping their hearts out, which earned him the nickname "The Cruel".

Accept this invitation and escape the urban routine.

Come and discover all the charms of the two of main regions of the central area of Portugal, where you will be able to mix history and tradition with rest and relaxation.

Join us on this visit that lasts approximately ten to twelve hours and passes through alleys, viewpoints, wonderful landscapes and enchanting beaches. All this while experiencing the mouth-watering local cuisine.
