    Description

Foz Côa and Douro: delight in Palaeolithic rock art and drink in the tradition of the best wines in the world

Very close to Porto, you will find this little wonder of our country: a demarcated region of the Upper Douro. There are about 250,000 hectares between the towns of Barqueiros and Barca d'Alva.

A region famous all over the world for the production of wine, and in particular port, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.

Did you know that the Douro is the oldest regulated and demarcated wine region in the world?

It was in 1756 that the Marquês do Pombal had its territorial limits defined as the "Vineyards of the Upper Douro". In this way, it became the first formal model for the management of a wine region.

Vila Nova de Foz Côa, or just Foz Côa, is a village in the interior of the country, and one of the municipalities of the Douro Superior region.

On this sightseeing tour, you'll discover a village known for its Paleolithic rock art, due to the discovery of several prints from the period on the banks of the Côa River. This is proof that human beings were born to tell stories.

Foz Côa is also known as the “Hot Land” for its high temperature in the summer months, and also for being situated on a plateau cut by the valleys of the Côa and Douro rivers.

Discover the secrets of the several hundreds of panels with thousands of animal figures, and otherworldly wines.

We started this personalized tour of the beautiful village of Foz Côa right in the heart of the northern Portugal interior.

This visit could never be complete without passing through the main attraction of the region: the Archaeological Park of the Côa Valley.

Classified a National Monument in 1997 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, it is a mandatory experience, and one of humanity's greatest treasures.

You'll discover a real open-air museum. Put on some comfortable shoes and join us.

The rock art of Foz Côa presents engravings dating mostly from the upper Palaeolithic era. That is, our ancestors who lived there more than 20,000 years ago.

To visit Vila Nova de Foz Côa is to travel through millennia of history and see the secrets that these rock carvings want to tell us.

      What do you eat here?

When lunchtime comes, you will see why this region invites you to eat well. In one of the main restaurants of the region, you can try typical dishes such as the famous roasted goat, cod baked in the oven or, for dessert, the lamprey egg.

Believe me when we tell you it's going to leave you crying for more.

After one of the best meals you'll ever eat, the ride designed for you lets you follows distant stories where wine is the main character.

Although the upper Douro, between Foz Côa and Pinhão, is less touristy than the Alto Douro Vinhateiro region, it is not a destination to be missed.

Among the vineyards, stories of a lifetime

This tour shows you the most important wine villages in the region.

They are places that hold a unique story told by the vineyards, monasteries, churches, castles and museums. Pinhão, Peso da Régua and Provesende are three villages you really must visit.

Our visit passes through two of the main farms of the region: Quinta do Rosário "Quevedo" and Quinta da Pacheca.

Here, you will be able to taste the best wines in the world while you learn secrets that have survived centuries, and follow the process of wine production, from the treading of the grapes to the characteristics of the soil itself.

      It's impossible to resist.
